Ease into the afternoon with a paddle around Millerton or Shaver Lake, catch a lazy float on the San Joaquin River, or go all out with Class-III white water rafting on the Kings River. China Peak has seasonal options: summer brings mountain-biking trails, winter flips the mountain back to skiing and snowboarding. AC feels better during the summer, check out the Indoor Rock-Climbing at Metal Mark in Fresno. Still trying to impress your friends with getting the closest to the pin? The Best Base Camp to Experience the City & the Outdoors
If your mental image of a California city is all concrete, you'll be in for a surprise once you arrive to Fresno County. Our riverside paths, nearby foothills, and plenty of public parks to enjoy means you'll be able to catch your breath at any time of day. Around here, “getting outside” can mean an urban walking trail at the park before breakfast, a nearby hike in the foothills after lunch, or catch the sunset over a lake by the end of your day. Want the big stuff? Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon are great full day trips, but you don’t need a national park badge to experience a solid view here.
