You don’t have to go far to get outside while visiting Fresno County. If you're a visitor looking for an easy walk between activities or an outdoorsy traveler wanting scenic views without a long drive, this list has you covered. From paved walking trails in Clovis to lakeside hikes just minutes from Fresno, these nearby routes are a great go-to for stretching your legs, clearing your head, and experiencing the natural side of the city.

Pincushion Peak

Pincushion Peak

Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: ~2.4 miles out-and-back trail
Why Check it out: This is a very popular area for locals to go birding, hiking, and mountain biking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are January through November.  About halfway through, the trail forks and veers right, leading to a steep and challenging climb with some rock scrambling before you reach the top. Be prepared to pace yourself and take plenty of breaks! Keep an eye out for cattle along the trail—they often roam the area. The view at the top is worth the hard work. Dogs are not allowed.

Edison Point (Pine Flat Lake)

Difficulty: Easy/moderate
Distance: ~1.5 miles
Why Check It Out: This is a great hike to get outdoors, see a body of water and still be close by to the city to come back and do more exploring. The trail has uneven ground and some steep hills, so wear grippy shoes and bring plenty of water to drink as there is little to no shade on the trail. Dogs are welcome but be sure to be aware of the outside temperatures to ensure their paws do not become injured!

Lewis S. Eaton Trail (Woodward Park)

Distance: Up to 5 miles
Why Check It Out: this loop trail is within and goes outside of Woodward Park in north Fresno. This is great for walking, running, or biking on its paved accessible trail. Be sure to take a break at a nearby bench on the trail to check out views of the San Joaquin River and amazing sunsets. This trail is open all year 'round and is beautiful in every season. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.

Clovis Old Town Trail (Clovis)

Distance: ~9 miles
Why Check It Out: This trail is great for road biking, running, and walking, you'll likely come across other people enjoying the trail in different parts due to its far stretches across Clovis. This is a paved multi-use path through downtown Clovis and can be accessible for visitors using wheelchairs, mobility equipment, or strollers but be aware of the railroad tracks at the 4.4-mile mark. While in  Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.

Hidden Homes Nature Trail

Distance: 1/2 mile loop
Why Check it Out: This trail’s open all year, so you can enjoy it anytime. It’s family-friendly, dog-friendly (just keep them leashed), and a great spot to catch glimpses of bunnies, lizards, and birds along the way. The path is gravel and about four feet wide, making it easy to easy to follow for a casual walk.
