Gateway Ice Center
Who says you have to wait until winter to hit the ice? At Gateway Ice Center, you can lace up your skates and enjoy public skating year-round. Whether you’re learning for the first time or showing off your skills, it’s a fun way to cool off while spending time with family or friends.
Safety tip: Wear long socks for a more comfortable fit with rental skates and take your time on the ice if you’re new to skating.
United Skates Clovis
Take a break from the summer heat and head to United Skates in Clovis. It’s a classic spot where you can spend time on the rink, share a few laughs, and make memories together. The rink also hosts themed events and special skating sessions, making your time on the rink a little different.
Safety tip: Wear socks with your skates and skate at a comfortable pace, especially if it’s been a while since your last lap around the rink.
Forestiere Underground Gardens
Looking to cool off while discovering a piece of Fresno County history? Head underground at the Forestiere Underground Gardens, where you’ll explore hand-built passageways, courtyards, and rooms created by visionary builder Baldassare Forestiere. As you make your way through this unique attraction, you’ll hear the story behind its creation while escaping the summer heat.
Safety tip: Tours include stairs and uneven walkways, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and stay with your guide throughout the experience.
Wild Water Adventure Park
Ready to cool off? Spend the day at Wild Water Adventure Park, where you can race down thrilling water slides, float along the lazy river, or relax by the wave pool. Bring the kids, gather your friends, and enjoy a full day of splashing, laughing, and soaking up the summer fun.
Safety tip: Stay hydrated, reapply sunscreen throughout the day, and follow posted height and safety requirements for all attractions.
Roaring River Falls in Kings Canyon National Park
Roaring River Falls crashes through a narrow chute into a pool below, especially loud in late spring and early summer. This is a short 7-minute walk to view the waterfall and is considered a very popular spot for all visitors, so be prepared to see many people on the path! If you are still up for more exploring after seeing the waterfall, take a paved 3.9-mile loop walk to see the Zumwalt Meadow and enjoy a peaceful view of one of our personal favorite spots in the park.
Safety tip: Do not attempt to swim in the waterfall pool. The way may look calm on the surface, but the current is very strong, and the rocks are slippery at the bottom. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
Boyden Cavern in Kings Canyon National Park
Step beneath the mountains and discover a different side of Kings Canyon at Boyden Cavern. Guided tours take you through winding passageways where you’ll see impressive rock formations, towering stalactites, stalagmites, and learn about the history and geology of the cave. Since the cavern stays cool year-round, it’s also a nice break from the summer heat before continuing your adventure through Kings Canyon.
Safety tip: Tours include stairs, narrow walkways, and uneven surfaces, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Bring a light jacket, as temperatures inside the cave stay around 55°F.
Crystal Cave in Sequoia National Park
Step into a different side of Sequoia National Park with a visit to Crystal Cave. Tucked beneath the mountains, this marble cave is filled with winding passageways, unique rock formations, and fascinating stories about how it was formed over thousands of years. Guided tours take you through the cavern while sharing its history and geology, making it a fun stop for visitors of all ages. If you’re looking to add something unexpected to your park adventure, Crystal Cave is well worth making time for.
Safety tip: Crystal Cave can only be visited on a guided tour. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, as the trail to the cave is steep in sections and the cave floor can be uneven. A light jacket is also recommended since temperatures inside stay cool year-round.
