Respect Park Signage, It's There for a Reason

Some of the most scenic spots in our nearby national parks have strict no-swimming rules. Waterfalls and rivers might look calm but have very strong undercurrents we are not able to see above water level. Always stay on marked trails, follow park rules and respect posted signage.

Don't Be Fooled by Calm Water

Local rivers can be deceiving. Even when water levels appear to be shallow and slow currents, sudden drop offs and strong currents can easily turn a dip in the river into a quickly turned dangerous situation. Do not attempt to cross rivers or jump into waterfall pools, no matter how calm the water may seem.

Stay Off of Rocks

Many of our nearby national park waterfalls are surrounded by large boulders and slick rocks. Never stand or climb slick wet rocks. Take photos from dry ground and stay on designated trails.

Always Wear a Life Jacket

Any time you are planning a paddleboarding, kayaking, or lake swimming vacation, always stay prepared by bringing a fitted life jacket for all adults and children you may have with you. Ensure the life jacket is the correct size for how old your child is based on height and weight. Always keep children and pets supervised whenever you are near a body of water.

Plan Ahead and Stay Safe

We get it, seeing pretty waterfalls and rivers for the first time is exciting! But a little water safety know-how goes a long way. Keep your trip memorable for the right reasons and make it back home safe!
