If you’ve been looking for a colorful fall outing, there’s a flower farm in Fresno County worth adding to your list. At Medina’s Produce LLC, rows of vibrant orange marigolds stretch across the farm, bringing a little piece of tradition, culture and home to Fresno County. Locally owned by Bernardo Medina, the farm grows a variety of fresh produce throughout the year, from cilantro to chiles. But come fall, one of its biggest highlights is the beautiful marigold garden, featuring cempasúchil, the traditional flower closely associated with Día de los Muertos.
Growing Tradition, One Flower at a Time

Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Bernardo has spent more than 20 years growing marigolds and bringing a piece of his cultural heritage to Fresno County. His vision goes beyond growing flowers. He wants to create a welcoming place where families can visit the farm, enjoy the blooms and let their children experience the beauty of the garden.
And sometimes, a visit can mean much more than a few beautiful photos. Bernardo recalls a visitor who stopped by to purchase flowers and became emotional as she walked through the farm. Seeing the cempasúchil brought back memories of home, reminding her of a flower farm she had not seen in many years.
More Than Marigolds

While the brilliant orange cempasúchil steals the show, take a closer look around the farm and you’ll spot rows of yellow marigolds, too. You may also find sections of flor de terciopelo, commonly known as cockscomb, with its rich red and magenta hues. The marigolds are not only striking to see, they also fill the garden with a strong, distinctive scent. Their fragrance is part of the experience, adding another sensory detail to a walk through the colorful rows.
These flowers are especially meaningful during Día de los Muertos, a Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have passed away. Whether you’re familiar with the tradition or discovering it for the first time, a stroll through the farm offers a chance to appreciate the flowers and the cultural meaning behind them.
