Description
What is “American” classical music? Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World, answered that question by drawing inspiration from Indigenous and African American music. Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s Clans expresses his Chickasaw identity through the medium of modern classical music. Placing these two works in dialogue hopefully deepens this fundamental artistic question. Julian Rhee, winner of the 2020 Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition, brings Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto to life with his signature energy.
